I roughly understand that this Kefalia, or whatever her name is, tricked the naive girl, using some kind of suggestion, and in reality, Aidan loves her, but his father pressured him, so he didn’t have time to explain everything to her. Also, most likely, the estate with her parents and brother was deliberately set on fire, either by Franklin (the heroine’s uncle) or the women from the Order. Perhaps Amaia’s mother was in this Order and she sealed her powers because she wanted to escape from them and protect her daughter. And I also think that her ugliness was part of a disguise. I have a feeling that maybe Amaia did this to herself unconsciously, so that no one would bother her too much.
