Her father traveled a lot, obviously he made money to pay for that, but oh well, I know it's a novel... but she has so much mental instability, and burdening her with that payment that isn't her responsibility doesn't help much.

Congratulations! The path of writing is long and enlightening. I wish you much success. Try to improve that issue of word repetition in the same paragraph and the overuse of adverbs ending in "ly" that can become tedious.
