About the book

Demi Louwed is invited, along with her cousin Mari, to study at a school for noble ladies in the ancestral castle of the Anglo-Saxon county of Groundval. The girl finds herself in the midst of intrigues and feudal feuds. Gaining both new enemies and friends, strong-willed Demi realizes that one can overcome any difficulty, except for one — the Count himself, the stern Erik Groundval. And God forbid she should incur his wrath, for in that case, the only way is to run... and as far as possible!

    A standard adventurous romance novel

At first, the book intrigued me, but the moment of sexual violence against the girl made me lose the desire to continue reading. Count Grandwell is an emotionally unstable rapist and maniac, and it seems to me that in this work, the author romanticizes violence against women.

Interesting, where did turkeys come from in late 9th century England? And the students seem a bit old. All of them are complete old maids.

It seems the author really loves the word "very" )))

The beginning is not bad (10 chapters read), but I have some remarks: 1). Age. The main character is 19 years old, but in the 9th century in real life, she would already be a mother of four children; 2). School. Yes, there were schools (at monasteries), but girls aged 8-9 studied there; 3). Lap dog. I can just imagine an Irish wolfhound in her arms; 4). Wine. The reasons related to the restriction of its consumption are unclear; 5). Titles. A brother and sister (father and son, etc.) cannot have the same titles. Only if they are married.

This is awful.....I was in love with Peter, then Erik brutally raped her, and now she's in love with him. She suffers, gets jealous that he might be with someone else. Is this Demi completely out of her mind? She and Malinda are cut from the same cloth, they get tossed around by whoever wants to, and she enjoys it. And the same thing happened to Demi after her first night of "love" with the count. I thought I was reading a novel about a strong heroine.....but it turns out it's about a doormat just like Rendl.
