This is the first time I've come across a fantasy novel where the characters' relationships are truly alive and complex. They make mistakes, try to fix them, only to make another mistake... Just like in real life.

As for Lettina and Alter, I wouldn’t spare them for their abuse of women and children who were separated from their mothers. They should have been held accountable for their actions. Because if evil is left without a proper response, it will continue to grow into an even greater evil. An example is our country and the inaction of our allies.
