Psychology has always been my dream, ever since I learned to distinguish one profession from another. I remember staying focused on my studies, taking the entrance exam, and passing with flying colors.
I thought that even though the university was public, the cost of living in New York would be my biggest challenge. But I stayed resilient. I took on awful jobs where I endured all kinds of mistreatment and mockery about my appearance and my noticeable weight struggles. There were times when things got really tough, and I had to accept help from my father. Then, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came my way: becoming the nanny for the children of a well-known widowed publicist. Not only would this job help me cover the cost of living in the city, but it would also allow me to support my father with my mother’s medical treatment. Everything was going to work out.
