PREFACE

His clear eyes found mine through the crowd. I knew he hated family gatherings, so I’d been hoping he wouldn’t show up tonight. But of course, I should’ve figured that the rehearsal dinner for his father’s wedding wasn’t just any family event. Still, I really would’ve preferred if he hadn’t come. This situation was already tough for me, even without him here. But seeing him staring at me while I greet his entire family, arm in arm with his father, makes everything a million times worse.

What’s he thinking about me right now? Is he judging me? Probably. At this point, he might even hate me. His whole family does. But I don’t care what they think of me. To this family, anyone who doesn’t carry the Campbell name by blood is beneath them, obviously just after their money or connections. Even Harrison thinks that, and the prenup he asked me to sign a few days ago is proof. Maybe I should’ve felt hurt or offended, but honestly, it didn’t even surprise me. That’s just how the Campbells are. All of them, except one.

My fiancé’s youngest son, Jake.
