Pain. That’s all I felt. Unbearable, sharp, all-consuming pain.
I couldn’t tell if I was alive or dead. If I was alive, why couldn’t I see anything? If I was dead, why did I feel pain?
Before my mind’s eye, horrifying visions of endless battles unfolded.
There I stood, in the thick of a raging fight, my hands black with Dragon blood.
I heard a voice booming in my head like a bell, but I couldn’t make out the words.
A new wave of pain drowned everything in a red haze.
I was choking on agony.
This must be the end. Through the suffocating, hellish heat, I felt light touches. Coolness! More! More! Please!
It got a little easier; the fever retreated.
In my mouth, a taste of blood and spices. What was that?
I felt my body again. The pain lurked like a predator, as if it would pounce from its hiding spot at any moment and torment me once more.
Time passed, the taste of blood returned to my mouth, and the pain slowly faded.
“What’s happening to me?” I managed to think before my exhausted mind registered the touch of gentle hands, and I sank into a thick, impenetrable darkness.
